Musical < The Tale: April Fools > Two Lakes

In The Tale: April Fools, the lake serves as a metaphor for the characters’ dual identities. The lake by day represents John and Byron, while the lake by night represents Ianthe and Ruthven, their fictional selves. I imagined the two men sitting beside the lake by night, surrounded by butterflies that hint at the fictional identities. I created two versions of the drawing, one with butterflies and brighter moonlight and another without, to explore how the same two figures could tell entirely different stories. Although nothing about the men themselves changes, the world around them reveals who they truly are.
