In Roulette, each character has an alter ego representing one of the Seven Deadly Sins. Mr. Poe’s alter ego is Lust. I wanted to express this through a playing card covering one of his eyes, suggesting how his desires have blinded him to what truly matters. Each character is also associated with a playing card shape, and Poe’s is hearts, symbolising how he has been blinded by love. I chose the Ace of Hearts for Lust, combining these symbols into a portrait of someone whose greatest desire has become his greatest weakness.
