I imagined Benois (left) and Diaghilev (right) walking towards the sun, chasing a vision of art that perhaps neither could fully see yet. What kind of art were Ballets Russes dreaming of creating together? I was particularly drawn to the irony of a realist meeting a romantic and making perhaps the most romantic choice of all: believing in someone else’s impossible dream.
